CANON INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Princess Allura
CANON: Voltron: Legendary Defender
HISTORY: Link

STRENGTHS:
Tenacity – A common theme in Allura’s story is one of sacrifice, and time and time again, no matter what is taken from her or how bleak things become, Allura has strength to spare, often turning her sorrow into motivation. When the war takes her people, Allura picks up and turns around and trains a new set of paladins, in the hopes that they can stop the same fate from happening to anyone else. When her father's AI and last living record corrupts the rest of the castleship, Allura withstands an emotional barrage to shut it down. Allura finds her comfort in action and, even though she allows herself moments of sorrow, she never lets it stop her from doing what she thinks needs to be done.
Leader – While Allura is not the leader of Voltron, as Princess and representative of Altea, she falls naturally into leadership roles, offering words of motivation when those need it, and holding people’s feet to the fire when she feels they aren’t performing to the best of their ability. Such as when the humans first came to her ship, she put them under intense training, both because she feared for their safety if they took the threat of Zarkon lightly, but because she needed them fighting-capable in a short period of time, and she put herself at odds with them in order to achieve her goals. Allura is often looked to as a source of inspiration and motivation among not just the members of Voltron, but members of the coalition.
Kind - Despite her flaws (seen below) and her sometimes stand-offish nature, Allura is good and there is very little she would do for the sake of helping others. In the penultimate scene of the series (SPOILERS) Allura gives her life for the sake of the universe, even though, as Shiro put it, most would never know of her sacrifice
(/SPOILERS) She is referred to the “Heart of Voltron” and she is always there to offer a kind word or reassurance for those who need it, even if they are people she normally buts heads with.

FLAWS:
Stubborn – Her motivations are often very deeply rooted in an almost self-destructive determination. Despite her soft appearance, Allura is bull-headed to a fault, and can be a bit of a control freak. Although she prefers to work together as a team, and will preach to others about the value of being stronger as a whole, she can easily slip into being overbearing and subverting the rest of the team when she thinks that her way is the best way. Even if she isn't overt in the way she bends others to her will, because she cannot be swayed, she ends up putting her friends into impossible choices, where they don't want to go along with her idea, nor do they want to see her get hurt for going it alone, such as when she decides to sneak onto a Galra battle cruiser to find information. Ultimately they are dragged into an extremely dangerous mission because of her.
Reactive – Allura wears all of her feelings on her sleeve, and acts largely on instinct rather than long, careful deliberation. This can manifest in something as simple as pulling others into a hug or grimacing when she’s the object of unwanted affection, but also in ways that have serious ramifications, such as aggressing in battle or butting heads with other strong-willed personalities. While she is not too proud to apologize or reevaluate her actions once she has a chance to cool off and think about it, she is definitely a “shoot first and ask questions later” sort of person.
Judgemental - Allura is often guilty of painting large swaths of people with a broad brush. Although she has come to consider parts of the Galra her allies and friends, it took a long time for her to reach that point. When it is discovered that Keith is part Galra, her first instinct is to become cold and distrustful of him, even though they have been friends for some time. And, by the same token, she has been predisposed to trust fellow Alteans, and Altean allies at first glance. When they crossed into another reality where the Galra were defeated by the Alteans, she took the longest of everyone to realize that the Alteans in this reality were tyrants.

CANON ABILITIES: As a forward: Allura’s powers are vast and not incredibly well defined. They’re often used as a deus-ex-machina in canon. Some of the most commonly seen powers are:

Shapeshifting – Presumably limited size and color. More chameleon than Mistique from X-men.

Superior Strength – Allura has shown the ability to not only throw people who are significantly larger than herself, but also the ability to bend metal with her hands ( Not with any degree of finesse but still worth noting)

MICE – I don't know where else to list this. There are 4 mice that snuck in her stasis chamber and she formed a psychic connection with them. I consider this a power.

Lion Piloting - Allura eventually becomes the pilot of the blue voltron Lion.

Quintessence/Life Manipulation - In canon, Quintessence is the strongest form of energy that permeates every living thing, and while all Alteans have a connection with it, Allura’s is nearly prodigious. On her own she is capable of bringing someone back from the brink of death, cause a bare tree to sprout, etc, In the context of the game, I mostly see this being used in the form of minor healing (they still use stasis chambers for major injuries so it's clear she's not a fix-all) and largely for flavor text of feeling the energy in things.

AU INFORMATION

AU CHARACTER NAME: Allura
AGE: 17-20 in human years. Took a really long nap.
GRADE: Undergrad
AU BACKSTORY:
• Was born and raised in a moderately sized elven enclave known as Altea that existed in the Outlands.
• The Altean royal family were all magic users (a family of mages) and from a young age, Allura showed an affinity for magic as well. They didn’t have nearly the stigma as in the human world and Allura grew up embracing her skills.
• That being said, as a member of royalty Allura lived a largely sheltered life away from the more aggressive parts of the Outlands.
• She knew about the humans more through hearsay than personal experience, but she visited at least once in her youth.
• Altea opposed the attempts from other clans to use the nightfall in order to benefit the Outlands at the expense of the humans and what started as distrust erupted into outright hostility with other more aggressive clans and societies (i.e. necromances and the Galra) (note: all Galra involvement has been collaborated with Keith’s player)
• On a morning that was like any other, Allura’s father took her to the inner sanctum of the Castle of Lions, and there she was placed into a magical sleep that would last thousands of years.
• Unbeknownst to Allura, the kingdom disappeared seemingly overnight, earning some degree of reknown and mystery among magical scholars, reaching Atlantis-like levels of debate on whether it really ever existed at all.
• It was the Necromancers.
• Recent activity around the Castle by Keith and Lance broke the spell, and Allura woke up to the present day, alone in her castle, with no clue as to where the rest of her people disappeared to.
• Allura is brought to the academy by Keith and enrolled to help continue her people's legacy and also because this seems like the best bet to find out what happened to them.

AU PERSONALITY DEVIATION: I think her personality will be largely similar to her canon iteration, but certain events not happening or happening differently will definitely play some kind of role. Because what happened to her people is largely a mystery, and with less evidence that they were wiped out, Allura will have more hope that she isn’t alone and carry less survivor’s guilt at being the last known survivor.

Similarly, Allura won’t have a distinct and clear enemy for her to pour all of her energy into defeating and, since this universe’s version of the Galra aren’t responsible, she won’t have nearly the same baggage when it comes to trusting them and will see them largely as something to be wary off rather than an outright enemy.

She isn’t used to being the odd one out and will struggle with blending in among humans and keeping her magic hidden from those outside of the academy.

With the Voltron Lions themselves being less of an entity, she won’t have the immediate connection with her castmates as she normally does, making her immediately a lot more emotionally isolated as she is in canon, without a ready-made found family for her to join.

RACE: Altean – characterized by their pointed ears, facial markings, magical affinity, and great hair.

SECRET SOCIETY: The nearest description that fits would be that Allura comes from a family of mages – the Alteans are magically gifted, although they bucked the traditions of other groups in the Outland and sought to keep balance in the power structure between Outland and human society. That, of course, got them embroiled in wars all the same.

POWERS:
Allura's abilities largely come from her ability to draw and manipulate the life energy around her. Rather than Quintessence it will just be simplified to energy, and her healing will be largely a means of using her energy to boost someone else's natural healing abilities, so it won't be so much like a heal spell from final fantasy, as just speeding up what is already possible. And, again, flavor text.

Other powers such as shapeshifting and strength will be largely the same. Also MICE.

HOUSING: No preference.

INTERVIEW SAMPLE PROMPT

1. WHAT DO YOU MOST DESIRE FOR YOUR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE?
I suppose I would like to learn more about both of our worlds, I feel there is so much I have missed in the time that I was sleeping.

2. DESCRIBE YOUR IDEA OF AN IDEAL SCHOOL EXPERIENCE.
I'm not sure. I've never been to a school before, so right now I am only hoping that I will be able to adjust easily.

3. WHAT IS ESSENTIAL FOR A SCHOOL TO OFFER TO ITS STUDENTS?
While I think everyone is responsible for their own growth, the school must foster an environment where students can reach their full potential. It's as my father says – to care for a flower, you must water the soil around it.

4. WHAT COURSE WORK EXCITES YOU? WHY?
Truth be told, I really enjoy physical education. It helps clear my head.

5. WHAT COURSE WORK DO YOU DETEST MOST? WHY?
Detest is a strong word but... [A looooong pause.] Art. I am terrible at it.

6. WHEN GIVEN FREE TIME, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT?
I enjoy keeping busy. There are always new things to be learned and I think I would enjoy participating in your – what do you call them – ah, extracurriculars!

7. WHEN UNDER PRESSURE OF A TIGHT DEADLINE, HOW DO YOU RESPOND?
Dig my heels in and get the work done, of course. Ideally working ahead would relieve some of that pressure in the first place.

8. WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM YOUR PEERS?
To give their all. The fate of the world relies on all of us, after all.

9. WHEN WORKING IN A GROUP, HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE TO ACHIEVE YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL?
I think it is important to identify and utilize the talents of all parts of the team. It would make no sense to have your most talented engineer doing the physical labor. [A pause,] Unless, of course, they are also the strongest engineer, because they believe in a healthy body and mind.

10. IN THIS EVER-CHANGING WORLD, WHAT MOST EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE FUTURE?
[She frowns, obviously stumbling on this question,] I'm... Not sure, to be honest. There's still so much I don't know about the past that I guess I haven't given too much thought to the future.

11. WHAT IN THE FUTURE DO YOU MOST LOOK FORWARD TO?
[Decisively.] Stopping the Nightfall.
